Making pie with fresh berries

I’ve done a couple of posts on pies, but I was making one this weekend and decided to show making filling from fresh berries. I used fresh blueberries for this one, but you can use can use any combination of blueberries, strawberries, gooseberries, and raspberries.

Happy birthday Great Grandpa Hole!

Walt’s great grandfather John Swisher Hole was born on November 4, 1840 in Darke County Ohio. His parents were James Anderson and Mary Ann Swisher Hole.

More meal prep: turkey breast on the grill

I like to do large batch cooking when I have time to make it easier during the week. This past weekend, I cooked bacon (covered in this post with meatballs) and smoked 5 pounds of salmon (this post). I also cooked a turkey breast on the grill for sandwich meat.

This one came out perfectly.

Another generation back in time: Great-Grandma Fisher’s parents

Sometimes a picture can take you deep down a rabbit hole. I found this picture of Walt’s great-grandmother, Ann (or Anna) Redmond Fisher. It was taken sometime before 1919, but I don’t know the exact date.

Owls And Eagles And Flowers…Oh My! A Trip to Eagle Creek Park

We love to backpack, but it isn’t always an option. We are fortunate to have some really amazing parks not far from where we live. Eagle Creek Park is a city park in Indianapolis. We have hiked many of the trails in the park.

More cool photos: Grandma Link

It’s been so much fun to dig through the pictures. I found a couple of great ones with Walt’s Grandma Link this time. Lizzie was born April 2, 1890.

Working odd jobs in the 1920s

W.J. Link (Walt’s grandfather) did a lot of different jobs, threshing, pulling stumps, laying drain tile and drilling wells over the years. We found a couple of pictures in the latest batch that show some of his worksites.

Perfect end to a day in the woods

Walt and I love to backpack and hiking in the fall is so beautiful. The evenings can be a bit chilly, so a campfire and a warm drink make for a good way to relax before bed.

Some pics from a trip to Louisiana in 1966

I’ve been scanning in more pictures and found a couple from a trip that Walt and his family took to Louisiana in 1966.

More garden goodness – drying herbs

Once the weather starts to cool, it’s time to bring in any herbs that you want to keep before they freeze. I use a simple method to dry my herbs to save them for later use. Drying herbs takes little effort except for patience.
