Rhoda Case Kellogg was born on February 21, 1791 in Connecticut. She is my (Michelle’s) 4th great-grandmother.

Rhoda Case was born February 21 to Caleb and Rhoda Mills Case in Hartford, Connecticut. Her mother, Rhoda, was Caleb’s second wife. They were married in 1786 and had at least 4 children together. Caleb was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He served 1st in the Connecticut militia starting on June 11, 1776. Caleb was later in the 5th Connecticut Regiment.

Rhoda Case married Warren Kellogg on April 11, 1813 in Hartford, Connecticut. Together they had 7 children. Warren was a Deacon in the church and many records list him as Deacon Kellogg. Warren also had a farm.

The 1850 census shows Warren and Rhoda living on the farm with their son (Charles) Horace and daughter Mary. Son Frederick is right next door with his family. Charles Horace is my 3rd great-grandfather.

The 1860 census has Warren and Rhoda still living with Charles. They are now in Westmoreland, New York. Charles has married Almira Olney and they have 5 children, Charles, Francis, twins Harriet and Caroline and my second great-grandfather George Olney Kellogg, who is about 1 and half years old at the time of the census.

Two Rhodas

There is often another date listed for Warren and Rhoda’s marriage, that of October 2, 1804. This was Warren Kellogg’s first marriage to a Rhoda Webster. The two wives having the same first name is likely a large part of the confusion. Warren and Rhoda Webster had three children before her death in 1811.

Rhoda Case Kellogg died on March 11, 1861 in Westmoreland. She is buried in Westmoreland New Union Cemetery. The headstone is actually quite interesting in that it is for both of Warren’s wives. We see Rhoda W at the top and Rhoda C at the bottom.

I wrote about Rhoda and Warren in this post.
