It’s Garden Time! Spring at my house

Every year, the first flowers of spring brighten up my days. It’s fun to watch things grow and flowers open. Here’s a glance at spring at our house over the last few weeks.

Roasting the harvest – Poblanos from garden to dinner table

For the last few years I have been growing poblano peppers in my garden. They are a darker green and when fully ripe are a nice deep red. When a poblano is dried, it is called an ancho. They are a mild to medium pepper in terms of heat.

I usually pick them when they are green, but I don’t worry if they turn before I use them.

What good is a crop you can’t eat or sell?

I love the outdoors. I enjoy fishing, hiking, camping, gardening, hanging out enjoying a book in the shade with a cold drink….but I don’t like to mow the grass.  We have over ¾ of an acre, and I spend two to three hours a week or more mowing and trimming, about 8 months a year.
