Perfect end to a day in the woods

Walt and I love to backpack and hiking in the fall is so beautiful. The evenings can be a bit chilly, so a campfire and a warm drink make for a good way to relax before bed.

Our little camp fire from a trip earlier this month.

We are always open to checking out new foods and really enjoy shopping at the small local ethnic groceries. On a recent trip to the tienda (Mexican grocery) for ingredients, we came across some excellent cocoa with a touch of cinnamon.

We decided to take some along on this trip. We mixed a packet of that cocoa with a packet of dark chocolate cocoa. Add hot water and stir thoroughly, then add some Fireball to taste. We used about a half shot. It was excellent, with a bit of a kick from the cinnamon, but rich and warming.

When we take alcohol with us backpacking, we put a small amount in a container. We are not interested in drinking too much, and certainly don’t want to carry a lot. We usually take enough for a drink or two each over the weekend. I talk more about camping food in this post.
