Wilhelm Brune and Elizabeth Scheurmann were married on November 6, 1861 in Herzfeld, Germany. Their son Ben Brune married Walt’s 1st cousin 2x removed Bernadine Wellman.

We know little of the Brune family before they came to the United States. Both Wilhelm and Elizabeth were born near Herzfeld, Germany.

Wilhelm and Elizabeth married on November 6, 1861. According to their grandson Leonard Brune, they were married at St. Ida Basilica Catholic Church in Herzfeld. I found these pictures of the church. There is a website for the church here.

Wilhelm and Elizabeth had at least 3 children in Germany. One son, Henry, died at only a few months old. They decided to immigrate to the United States. I have seen various years for their arrival, between 1870 and 1873. We know they were here by July of 1873 because Ben was born in West Point on July 30, 1873.

Wilhelm and Elizabeth had a farm near West Point. They had a total of 6 children. Another child, Anna died at about two years of age, but I don’t know if she was born and died in the United Stated or in Germany. I wrote about their son Ben in this post.

Elizabeth died on May 26, 1901. Wilhelm died November 30, 1911. Wilhelm and Elizabeth Brune are buried in Calvary Cemetery in West Point.
