Rose Amilla Catherine Freitag was born on October 9, 1909. She married Walt’s second cousin once removed, Edward Brockman. He is related through the Kempkers.
Rose Freitag was the 4th daughter born to Henry and Catherine Krieger Freitag. Henry was a farmer in Lee County, Iowa. I found the family on the 1910 census, showing Rose as 6 month old child.

By the 1930 census, Rose was working at Scheaffer Pen, as was he younger sister Maria. Older sister Helen was working at Woolworths. Their dad Henry had moved to the railroad sometime between 1910 and 1920, starting as a truckman and later as a carpenter.
On May 14, 1932 Rose married Edward Brockman in Carthage, Illinois. A couple of places list the date of marriage as 1931, but I haven’t found a record yet to confirm. Edward was working in a grocery at the time of their marriage. Later he worked as a carpenter. By the 1950 census, he was farming.
Rose and Edward had 2 children. Edward died on August 14, 1955. Rose Freitag Brockman died on December 27, 1987. They are buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Fort Madison, Iowa.

I wrote about Rose’s cousin Cletus in this post.
