I’m posting this a day early. Tuesday is Election Day in the US. Whatever your feelings about the candidates might be, Election Day is your opportunity to do something about it. If you can vote, please go vote. I know we’ve written about this before, but it bears repeating. Please go vote.

After so recently relating the death of our kitchen range, it pains me (and my wallet) to inform you of a further loss. Our dear washing machine, Maytag 712, has passed. Born in Newton, IA in 1989, Maytag served two families faithfully until succumbing in June to a sudden transmission failure.
We regret to inform you of the passing of a trusted home appliance, our dear stove, Kenmore Plus. It has featured on this blog many times, being the background for many of the pictures of posts on cooking.
We had a good month off and are back on the blog again. And we did do some fishing. We spent a few days out in the Black Hills of South Dakota with a day trip into Wyoming.
It’s the start of a new year and many people use a time like this to make resolutions to change something in their lives. And I do use the time to consider things, but I don’t really make resolutions in the traditional way anymore.
I have no wish to make this political, but I hope everyone in the United States is taking time to vote today if they haven’t already voted. To preserve your voting rights, you need to vote. It’s important to vote even in the off years.
Every season brings new beauty to the deciduous forests. Autumn brings a wide array of colors to enjoy. Crisp days and cool nights make for good hiking and sleeping. Fall pictures are glorious to look at.
I don’t like mowing the lawn, but I take advantage of the time it takes to listen to music, a podcast, or an audio book. While I was mowing last weekend, I was thinking about the different playlists on my phone.
The 4th of July is a big holiday in the United States. It is celebrated by picnics, family gatherings, parades, festivals, and fireworks. I thought it might be a nice time for some reflection on some of the past celebrations.
