In Memorium – Kenmore Plus

We regret to inform you of the passing of a trusted home appliance, our dear stove, Kenmore Plus. It has featured on this blog many times, being the background for many of the pictures of posts on cooking.

Our stove came into our home on January 8, 2000. It served us for many years, making pizzas, cakes, and cookies. The stove prepared many a fine meal, whether it was Walt making chili or Michelle making spaghetti or innumerable other dishes. We could always rely on it to cook a frozen pizza after a long day on the road or scramble some eggs for an easy dinner after a long day at work.

Our venerable old stove

The oven made countless bagels, chocolate chip cookies, and numbers of sweet rolls. It never minded when it we spilled on the stove. The top made an admirable flat surface when not being used for cooking, adding valuable space in a small kitchen. When not being used otherwise, it made a fine time piece.

Kenmore Plus began to have issues a while ago. The heat in the oven began to be uneven, but we were able to adapt to the change. In April of this year, the stove began to have more issues. Despite efforts to help it continue, it died on June 6, 2024. Kenmore Plus is best remembered for it’s part in making Walt’s birthday cake and Thanksgiving dinners.
