I wrote about resolutions in this post. Today I thought I would write about the to-do list that so many of us have, whether it’s on our phone, calendar, dry-erase board or note pad. There are dozens of apps and specialty ways to keep track of things.

Deep-ish thoughts, philosophy, and discussions on the meaning of life.
It’s the start of a new year and many people use a time like this to make resolutions to change something in their lives. And I do use the time to consider things, but I don’t really make resolutions in the traditional way anymore.
I have no wish to make this political, but I hope everyone in the United States is taking time to vote today if they haven’t already voted. To preserve your voting rights, you need to vote. It’s important to vote even in the off years.
Every season brings new beauty to the deciduous forests. Autumn brings a wide array of colors to enjoy. Crisp days and cool nights make for good hiking and sleeping. Fall pictures are glorious to look at.
I don’t like mowing the lawn, but I take advantage of the time it takes to listen to music, a podcast, or an audio book. While I was mowing last weekend, I was thinking about the different playlists on my phone.
The 4th of July is a big holiday in the United States. It is celebrated by picnics, family gatherings, parades, festivals, and fireworks. I thought it might be a nice time for some reflection on some of the past celebrations.
Food is a big part of family gatherings. I’ve been thinking about family recipes a while. There’s always some favorite cake that grandma made or your uncle’s amazing fudge. We recently had some company and I baked my aunt’s Carrot Cake. It came out just as good as I remembered, and our company asked for the recipe. I gave them the copy I had printed out.
There’s nothing like a bowl of hot chili on a chilly day. But as soon as you talk about making chili on the Internet some twit will tell you that yours isn’t “real” chili because of <insert reason here>. So, for the benefit of such people, I’ve now created a handy checklist they can use to decide what’s wrong with the chili you’re offering. While they’re busy doing that, I’ll grab the last bowl from the pot. It isn’t quite like I’d make, but it’s tasty just the same. And if the picky people go hungry it serves them right!
Michelle and I don’t generally do New Year’s resolutions. But we do try to make changes in our lives. Once in awhile it makes sense to make them at the start of the year, and this year was one of those times. We decided that 2023 would be the year of saying “yes”.
