On November 10th, 1911, Leona link died at the age of 9 months. She was the daughter of Eustace and Mary Strothman Link. Leona was Walt’s first cousin twice removed.

Leona Link was born on February 18, 1911 in West Point, Iowa. She was the twin of Carl Link. They were the youngest of 11 children born to Eustace and Mary. Eustace was working as a salesman in a grocery store.

Since Leona was an infant, I have little of her story to tell, except for her obituary, published in the West Point Bee.

West Point Bee, West Point, Lee County, Iowa, Thursday, Nov. 16, 1911
Leona Agnes Link, the nine months old daughter, one of the twin babies, of Mr. and Mr. E. J. Link, passed away Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock after a short illness.
Death at all times is sad, but this one was more so as it claimed one of the twin babies to whom the family had become greatly attached. Thus over a happy home the shadow of a little grave has fallen.
Besides the parents, the little one is survived by six sisters and three brothers: Marie, Lavern, Rosewell, Bernice, Irene, Anna, Morris, Dennis and Carl.
The funeral was held at St. Mary's Church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. Father Jacoby officiated. Interment in the Catholic cemetery. The little white casket was covered with flowers and was borne to its last resting place by Josephine and Ernestine Hansen, Alma Clemens, Cecilia Walljasper, Josephine Koepping, Mary Lohman, Kathryn Pohlmeyer and Irene Pogge.
The bereaved parents and family have the sympathy of many relatives and friends.

Leona was not the only child that Eustace and Mary lost in infancy. A boy, Raymond, died in 1895.

I wrote about Leona’s sister Irene in this post.
