Joseph Dennis Link was born on February 23, 1946 to Carl and Martha Holtkamp Link in West Point, Iowa. Joe is Walt’s 2nd cousin twice removed.

Carl Link ran the funeral home in West Point. The 1950 census finds Carl and Martha living in West Point with their daughter Maureen and Joseph, age 4.

Joe graduated from St. Mary’s High School. He attended St. Benedict’s College and Iowa State University. Joe became a truck driver and loved to travel.

We find Joe in the top left of this image as a sophomore at Iowa State in 1967.

Joseph married Mary Hatala on December 20, 1969 at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Madison, Iowa. They had one son and several grandchildren. Even after Joe retired, he continued to travel. He was a fisherman, hunter and card player. Joseph Link died on March 14, 2023.

I mentioned his father Carl Link in this post. Joseph’s grandfather Eustace Link (mentioned in this post) was the brother of Isadore Link, Walt’s great grandfather. The Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home is in Eustace’s old store.
