Alfred Bernard Denning and Irene Deloris Link were married on December 30 1942. Irene is Walt’s first cousin twice removed. Her father Eustace was Isadore Link’s brother.

Alfred “Pat” Denning was born to Gerhardt and Mary Hourihan Denning on October 31, 1899 in Saint Paul, Iowa. He lived most of his life in Lee County, living in Jefferson and Cedar Townships, Denmark, West Point and Fort Madison.

Irene Link was born on March 21, 1903 to Eustace and Mary Strothman Link in West Point, Iowa. She lived most of her life in Lee County as well, in West point until her marriage, then in Fort Madison with her husband.

While I didn’t locate any pictures of them in my photos I have scanned so far, I did find a copy of their marriage certificate while browsing online. They were married in Detroit, Michigan on Dec 30, 1942. I suspect that Pat was there for the war effort.

I learned one very interesting bit of information from the certificate was that Pat and Irene were married by Irene’ brother, Maurice Link, a Catholic priest.

I found Pat’s draft cards from both World War I and World War II. It was interesting to see that he was working at the ordnance plant in Burlington when he filled out his WWII draft card.

I found Pat and Irene living in Fort Madison in mid 1950s in the city directories. They never had children.

Image shows two pages of the Fort Madison City directory from 1956. It has ads for Nieters Funeral Home and Richers' Service Station.
This is from 1956. It shows him as working as an assembler at Anthes Force Oiler.
Image shows an ad for the Anthes Company. they made car and train parts as well as fire extinguishers and flares.
I found this ad for Anthes from September of 1956, published in Commercial Car Journal.

Pat and Irene later lived in Keokuk. Pat died on September 17, 1985 and Irene on May 28, 1993.
