Mary Trevett was born on January 24, 1823 in New York. She is Michelle’s 4th great- aunt, the sister of her 3rd great grandfather Lewis Trevett.
Mary Trevett, who commonly went by Polly, was born on January 24, 1823 in Concord, New York. Her parents were Lewis and Sarepta Matthews Trevett. She was the 5 of 11 children born to the couple. The family were farmers in New York.
In 1860, Mary traveled with her brother Lewis to Wisconsin, where they settled near Cross Plains in Dane County. Lewis and his family later moved to Nebraska. You can find out more about them in this post about Lewis’ son, Orlando. Many later documents refer to Mary as Polly. I am not sure when that began.
In 1861, Mary Trevett married John Howery. John was the son of Jacob and Catherine Hess Howery. John had previously married Ellen Howery (a cousin). John and Ellen had 5 children together, the youngest being born less than a month before his mother’s death. The 1860 census shows this family living with John’s mother, Catherine. At this time, Ellen was pregnant with Samuel. Ellen died on October 18, 1860.
As noted above, John and Mary married in 1861, but I do not know exactly when. John Howery was a farmer. The family continued to live in Dane County, Wisconsin. Mary and John had 2 sons together. In the 1870 census, we find the entire family still living together on the family farm. It is hard to read, but the children range from 17 to 4 years old. 1880 still finds them all living on the farm together.
Mary Trevett Howery died on May 1, 1896. She was buried in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin along with her husband and several other family members.
