Orlando Martin Trevett was born on February 9, 1852 to Lewis and Mary Cross Trevett. He was born in Concord, New York. Orlando is Michelle’s 2nd great grandfather.

Orlando was the second of four children born to Lewis and Mary. Lewis had a farm near Concord, New York. Sometime in the mid 1860s, the family moved to the area of Cross Plains, Wisconsin, where their 2 youngest children were born. The family was doing well enough at this point that they had a young woman from Norway, Julia Hansen, living with them as a domestic. In the 1870 census, you find Orlando as an 18 year old.

On December 25, 1880, Orlando Trevett married Francis (Fannie) Cox. In 1886, their first child was born. Before their second child, Bessie (my great grandmother), was born, the family had moved to Emerson, Nebraska. Like his father, Orlando was a farmer. Orlando and Fannie had 3 more children, although only 2 survived to be counted in the 1900 census.

1920 census

By 1920, Orlando had retired from farming. The family was living in Wakefield, Nebraska. All of his children were living with him, as well as 3 grandchildren. Bessie had been married and widowed, and she and her three children were living with Orlando and Fannie. Bessie was working a housekeeper. Her sister Mary was teaching school. The boys, Louis and William were both working as laborers. Louis had married Pearl Weldon in December of 1919. In this close up of the census, you see the whole family, including my grandma Irene at age 7. You can read more about her here.

In the 1930 census, we find Orlando living in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin with his brother, Harrison (Harry) Trevett and his wife Luce. Orlando’s wife Fannie had died in 1923.

Orlando died on September 27, 1933 in Wakefield, Nebraska and was buried in Emerson, Nebraska.
