Catherine Wellman was born on July 7, 1892 in Alsage by Ankum in Germany. Her parents were Herman and Mary Brinker Wellman. The family came to the United States in 1897. Catherine is Walt’s 1st cousin twice removed.. Herman and Walt’s great grandfather Gerhard were brothers.

Catherine was just 5 years old when her family emigrated from Germany. They were joining family in West Point. Two of Herman’s brothers had come over in the 1880s, Bernard in 1883 and Gerhard in 1884. Herman and his family had a farm near West Point and Catherine lived there until she married in 1914.

Marriage

Catherine married Henry Pomberg on the 10th of February 1914. Henry and Catherine also farmed near West Point. They had two children, Herman Pomberg and Henrietta Pomberg Blint. They lived on the farm into the 1950s when Henry retired.

Catherine and Henry moved to Fort Madison. I found a picture from their 50th anniversary and a clipping from the paper.
