On November 15, 1900, George Olney Kellogg married Ester Louise Purdy. George is my (Michelle’s) second great grandfather. This was George’s second marriage.

George O Kellogg married Margaret Barnes on May 5, 1889. Their son, Amos Barnes Kellogg (my great grandfather) was born on November 15, 1890. Margaret died on March 14, 1894. I wrote about Margaret in this post. After her death, Amos went to live with his maternal grandfather, aunt and uncle.

George had worked for several years as a cheese maker, first in New York, where he was born, and later in Wisconsin. In 1896, he moved to Elkhorn, Wisconsin, where he served as a turnkey at the local prison. This is the keeper of keys for a prison at the time.

This snip from the 1900 census shows George as head. His occupation is listed as Turnkey.

On November 15, 1900, he married Ester Louise Purdy, the daughter of Perry and Ester Ann Wilcox Purdy. Louise, as she was known, kept house for the family, caring for her mother. By 1910, the couple was living with Louise’s mother and Amos in Elkhorn. George was working as a Clerk of the Courts at this time. He continued to work there for many years, and we find him in the 1920 census doing the same job. George’s sister Harriet Keith had joined the household after her husband’s death in 1919.

George and Louise Kellogg lived in Elkhorn until their deaths. George died in 1928 and Louise died in 1933. They are both buried in Lyons, Wisconsin.
