Sarah Elizabeth Hoel was born on March 8, 1893 to William Henry and Martha Ann Fisher Hoel in Mercer County, Ohio. Sadie is Walt’s aunt, the oldest sister of his father.

Sadie was the eldest child of William and Martha Hoel. They had been married the previous year. William was a laborer in an iron mill at the time of the 1900 census. We had this picture of the family that I am guessing was taken around that time. Sadie and her family remained in Mercer County and 5 more children were born there.

John Benjamin, William Henry, Sarah Elizabeth (Sadie), Martha Ann, Hazel Marie and Charles Aaron Hoel.

Arthur and Sadie Ransbottom

Sadie married Clarence Arthur Ransbottom on March 11. 1909 in Celina, Ohio. Clarence usually went by Arthur, and we find him listed that way in most census.

By 1920, Sadie and Arthur were living on a farm near Celina and had 5 children, including one set of twins.

They had 2 more children in Ohio, another set of twins. Sadie and Arthur moved to Madill, Oklahoma before 1925 where they had a third set of twins. By 1929, they were in Bonnerdale, Arkansas, where their 10th child was born. Arthur and his eldest son were working as farmers.

In 1940, the family was living in Tensas Parish, Louisiana. Five of the children are still living at home and they are still farming.

Sadie and Arthur and several of the family remained in Louisiana. Arthur died in 1951. This picture is from a trip Walt and his family made to Louisiana to visit in 1966. It shows Dale (Sadie’s 5th child), Sadie and Walt. I have more pictures from this trip in this post. I talked about some of Arthur and Sadie’s children in this post and this post.

Sadie Ransbottom died on November 24, 1970, in Newellton, Louisiana.
