I hate to get rid of odds and ends of things. I’ve shown a few ways I use up leftover food items, such as freezer soup. I use a variety of leftover breads in my stuffing at Thanksgiving. Even after that, I had tons of leftover bread last year, and so decided to use up a bunch and make bread crumbs.

Once the weather starts to cool, it’s time to bring in any herbs that you want to keep before they freeze. I use a simple method to dry my herbs to save them for later use. Drying herbs takes little effort except for patience.
I really enjoy using fresh from the garden food in my cooking. This year I grew basil, so it’s time to make some pesto! It’s an easy to make recipe that can add so much flavor to your food.
Thanksgiving is always a feast at my house, even if it is only Walt and I. I like to do the entire meal, turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, two vegetables, cranberry sauce, and pie. Walt is the gravy cook in our family, and I am doing the last minute things like mashing potatoes and putting everything in serving dishes while he makes it.
As I mentioned in this post, I like to do some prep cooking when I have the chance. Walt and I really enjoy Mexican food, so we like to have some meat prepared for easy dinners. We usually just make an oversized batch when we are preparing dinner and then freeze the leftovers for later use.
We have used this basic recipe for quesadillas, tacos, chimichangas, and other dishes. It can be made with beef, pork, or chicken. Walt combined a couple of recipes to create this recipe.
When the garden does well, early August can be a busy time getting all of the produce stored.
I love to eat the fresh tomatoes from the garden! The first BLT sandwiches are always a favorite part of summer.
