James Joseph Fedler was born on September 25, 1925, in West Point, Iowa. He is related through the Wellman Side of the family.

Jim was the sixth of ten children born to Theodore and Theresa Pieper Fedler. The family had a farm near West Point. I found his birth certificate, but it is not easy to read. Trying to sharpen the image just brings out whatever text was filed near the paperwork.

It lists his name James Joseph Fedler, his birthdate, his parents information and that he was born at home at 2 pm. A physician is listed, but I cannot make out the name.

The 1940 census finds him attending high school with his next oldest sister. Two of his older brothers are working the farm with their father.

Jim registered for the draft in World War II as soon as he turned 18 in 1943. He served in the army, enlisting on January 20, 1945 and served until November 25, 1946. I found a supplemental service record for him that states he served int he Pacific from August 6, 1945 to October 6, 1946. He also registered for the draft for Korea, but I did not find a record that her served there. It is possible that he did.

Jim married Pauline Dingman on April 15, 1947 in st. Paul, Iowa. I found their marriage record. His brother Joseph and her sister Bertha were witnesses.


Jim and Pauline had 3 children. Jim Fedler died on April 14, 1988. Pauline died on August 11, 2016. They are buried in Calvary Cemetery in West Point.
