Nina Warren was born on December 19, 1898 in Upton, Wyoming. She married Michelle’s great-uncle, Joseph Durfee.

Nina Bell Warren was born on December 19, 1898 not far Upton, Wyoming. Her parents were Bertram and Willa Jones Warren. She was their oldest child. The family had a ranch in the Skull Creek area of Weston county. This area has an interesting geological history and some parts of the area are in the Thunder Basin National Grasslands.

When I was looking at information about Nina, I saw that she had this delayed certificate of birth. This means that she needed a birth certificate, but didn’t have one from when she was an infant. This type of record gives a list of sources for what information they used to help verify the date. This is the only document I have found that lists Nina’s mother as Willi Hicks Jones. I am hoping that I might find something that tells me more on this.

The document uses school records, voter registration and her marriage certificate. This provides a fair amount of information about her life. I’m not sure why she needed the certificate. Its possible that it was for a Social Security number as they did start issuing them in 1936 although it did not become widespread until 1943.

Marriage

Nina Warren married Joseph Durfee on December 18, 1918. Joseph is the son of Charles Todd and Anna Durfee. I wrote about them in this post. Joseph was a barber in Upton. Nina and Joseph had two sons. Sometime between 1940 and 1950, they had moved to Sundance, Wyoming. Joseph died in 1958.

I met Nina when I was a young girl and knew her sons, Jay and Bill rather well. Nina Warren Durfee died December 10, 1987 in Newcastle. She and Joseph are buried in Sheridan, where several of the Durfee clan are buried.
