Lorraine Walton Mahaffey was born on September 26, 1923. She is the mother-in-law of Walt’s brother.

Lorraine is the daughter of Fred and Gladys Zinn Walton. She was born in Creston, Iowa. Fred worked for the railroad. Sometime in the early 1930’s Fred and Gladys divorced. Gladys remarried Leslie Foreman in 1937. They had a farm in Wayne County, Iowa.

After graduating high school Lorraine attended William Penn and Simpson colleges. Lorraine was in the U.S. Navy from 1943–1944.

She was a rural school teacher for two years teaching in Humeston and Russell, Iowa. Lorraine also worked for the Des Moines Register, IRC, and the Iowa Department of Human Services.

I am finding some interesting conflicting information about her marriages. She was married twice. The information I had from the past said that she married Glen Clipperton in Des Moines in 1946. It says she married William Edward Mahaffey in 1952.

I found information in the Oregon marriage records that on Sept 11, 1946 William and Lorraine were married in Portland.

For the marriage with Glen, I found a newspaper clipping that was posted in the Mason City Globe-Gazette from May 11, 1955. There is a list of people who were granted licenses to wed. I have also seen several notes saying they were married in 1952.

So this information is opposite to what I had prior to finding these documents. A 1960 City directory for Des Moines has Glen & Lorraine living there and Glen working at Firestone.

Walt says that he always knew Lorraine as a Mahaffey. Lorraine Mahaffey died on December 11, 2006 in Burlington, Iowa.
