George & Gertrude Boeding were twins born on October 3, 1910. They are Walt’s 2nd cousins once removed.

George & Gertrude were born to William and Mary Wellman Boeding in McPherson County, South Dakota. They were the third and fourth children of 13 born to the family.

George attended school through 8th grade. He then went to work at a neighbors to help the family financially. By 15, he was helping to grade roads.

On July 31, 1934, George married Maxine Walenta at Glad Valley, South Dakota. I found this picture of the couple. They lived on the Walenta Ranch for a time. George and Maxine had 4 children.

He also worked for the Works Progress Administration building dams. George later worked for the state of South Dakota in Dupree in the maintenance department. He lived in Faith and he worked for the Highway Department until his retirement in 1975. Maxine died in 1974. George died on December 31, 2007.

Gertrude Boeding Pollpeter

The 1930 census finds Gertrude working as a servant for a family in Northville, South Dakota. Gertrude later moved to West Point, Iowa. She married Alphonse Pollpeter there on September 15, 1936. The Pollpeters were farmers. I found this picture of her, but don’t know the year.

Gertrude and Alphonse had 5 children. Alphonse died in 1975. Gertrude continued to live in West Point until her death. She died on March 21, 2006.

I found these pictures of George and Gertrude as older adults. Again, I am not sure of dates.
