Happy Anniversary Paul & Rosanna Bartlett!

Paul Bartlett & Rosanna Vonderhaar were married on September 19, 1940 in Fort Madison, Iowa. Rosanna is Walt’s second cousin once removed.

Paul Bartlett was born on Feb 25, 1918 in Fort Madison, Iowa, to Phillip and Maria Kern Bartlett. It appears that he had only one sister. His father Phillip was an engineer for the railroad in Fort Madison.

Rosanna (sometimes listed as Roseanna) was born on July 09, 1917 in Fort Madison, Iowa to Henry and Anna Wellman Vonderhaar. I wrote about them in this post.

Paul and Rosanna were married in Fort Madison by the Reverend E. P. Seidel on September 19, 1940. Paul was working for the Iowa Union Electric Company. He registered for the draft in October 1940.

Before their marriage, Rosanna worked as a telephone operator and for Sheaffer Pen.

Paul and a couple of associates founded Electric Design & Manufacturing in 1946 in Burlington, Iowa. Paul Bartlett bought Electric Design & Manufacturing in 1967 with another partner and the name of the company was changed to Bartlett-Emery Instrument Company. Mr. Bartlett and his new partner, Mr. Emery, moved the company from Burlington, Iowa, to a location in Fort Madison, Iowa, that same year. The name was changed to Bartlett Instrument in 1984. The company is still in business today and you can find out more about them on their website.

Paul and Rosanna Bartlett had nine children. One son died in infancy, but the rest grew to adulthood and provided them with many grandchildren.

Paul died on December 11, 2008 and Rosanna died on February 10, 2020. They are both buried in Gethsamane Cemetery in Fort Madison.

Hi Roy. Walt is her 2nd cousin once removed. Rosanna’s Grandfather Bernard Wellman is the brother of Walt’s Great-Grandfather Gerhard Wellman. So you are Walt’s 3rd cousin!
