Happy Birthday Cousin Willis Link!

Willis Howard Link was born on August 15, 1910 in West Point, Iowa. He is Walt’s 1st cousin twice removed.

Willis was the youngest of 7 children born to Aloysius and Emma Whitlock Link. He was only 9 years old when his father died. Willis, his mother and two of his siblings lived in West Point for a time. I wrote about Al here.

I found this delayed certificate of birth for Willis. It was filed in 1942. It lists several records that were used to prove the given birth date: a Certificate of Baptism, an insurance policy, an employment record and an affidavit from the physician at the birth.

By 1930, Willis, his sister Virgal and their mother Emma had moved to Sioux City. Iowa. At least one other brother was living there. Willis was working at a grocery store, Tolerton & Warfield. You can read a bit about them here.

On November 1, 1935, Willis Link married Beulah King in Nashua, Iowa. A note I found said that they were married at the Little Brown Church. You can find more about that here.

Through the 40s and 50s, Willis continued to work for a wholesale grocery company in Sioux City. They had three children together. I don’t know much about his life past that time.

Willis Link died on November 26, 1994 in Sioux City. He is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.

Willis was my great uncle. His brother was Walter Charles Link, my paternal grandfather. Willis and Beulah had three children, Betty, Donna and James. I believe Donna (Goering) is still living in Minnesota or Iowa. I have photos of Al and his wife if you are interested.
