Adelaide Brune was born on July 11, 1904 in West Point, Iowa. She was Walt’s second cousin once removed.
Adelaide was the daughter of Bernard and Bernadine Wellman Brune. She was the oldest of their nine children. I wrote about them in this post. In 1925, we find her in Davenport, Iowa, working as a bookkeeper for the Syndicate Clothing Company. This photo was taken in 1928.

By 1930, Adelaide was living in Akron, Ohio, where she lived for the rest of her life. She was working as a bookkeeper for a bank at that time and was living as a lodger. Her sister Catherine was also living there, working at a rubber factory.
That rubber company was B.F. Goodrich, where Adelaide would soon be working. Adelaide worked there for more than 30 years. You can read a bit about the history of the company in Akron here.
Adelaide traveled to Cristobel in Panama. I found the arrival list for the the ship she traveled on. The Contessa arrived in New Orleans on April 29, 1939.
Adelaide was active in her local church, St. Sebastian Church. She died on on November 19, 1999. She is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
