Mary Harmeyer was born on December 6, 1904in West Point, Iowa. Mary is a distant cousin on the Wellman side of the family.
Mary Clara Harmeyer was the sixth child born to John H Harmeyer and Clara G Kempker. Their 7th child, Walter, was born in 1908 and only lived a few weeks. The family were farmers in Pleasant Ridge Township in Lee County, Iowa. Mary was commonly known as Mayme. In 1920, the family was still living on the farm. Two older brothers were working on the family farm. A sister was working as a dressmaker. Another brother was working at a garage.
On June 26, 1928, Mary Harmeyer married Herman J. Mehmert. They were married in West Point by Father Grothe.
Herman and Mary settled in Marion Township where they were farmers. Mary and Herman had one daughter, Bernice. The family continued to farm over the next years. Herman died in 1972.
Mayme died on April 8, 1982. She is buried in Calvary Cemetery in West Point, Iowa.
