Even a grey day in the woods can be amazing. We had a chance to go out and do a few miles recently down near Lake Monroe in southern Indiana. Despite the clouds and intermittent light rain, we saw some glorious views!

We hiked out Terrill Ridge in Deam Wilderness. The main trail was lovely, and there were still quite a few green leaves. I caught a good snap of the boys walking ahead of me. Jaxon always carries his backpack with snacks and water.

This trail is one of the few places a vehicle is allowed in the wilderness as there is a cemetery from when this area was inhabited by farmers.

When we got to the pond just past the cemetery, we stopped for a lunch of instant soup and crackers at a campsite there.

I took this shot looking across the pond.

We then went exploring on some old, semi-abandoned trails and roads.

You can see this was once a an old road.

We did find a small friend while walking along. Walt caught this snap.

We also saw a fair number of fungus growing on fallen trees. Walt saw these little fellows all over this log.

We took advantage of the trip to stop at another pond in Hoosier National Forest. Maine’s pond is sort of on our way back to the highway 135 and the drive home, so we popped by.

Hopefully this will encourage you to get outside and enjoy even the grey days!
