September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. We have enjoyed celebrating this for several years now and thought we should invite our readers along for the fun!
In 2021, GenCon was moved to September, so Talk Like a Pirate Day fell on Sunday. We decided to have fun with it and dressed appropriately. Our masks were even pirate treasure maps (see more about our masks here). We had a lot of fun and were a little hoarse by the end of the day.
History
Talk Like a Pirate day was initially just a fun gag between a couple of friends, but became widespread in the early 2000s. you can read about it’s origins here and here. It is celebrated around the world. There is even a song written by filk musician Tom Smith. You can hear his song here.
