Martha Ann Fisher was born in Celina, Ohio, on March 28, 1869 to John Benjamin Fisher and Ann Redmond.

She married William Henry Hoel on July 2, 1892 in Celina. William and Martha had 9 children together. They moved to New London, Iowa in 1922. By that time that had lost two children.

Martha Hoel died September 27, 1944. At that time, her son Carl (Walt’s dad) was in Pocatello, Idaho. Due to the restriction on travel, he was unable to come home for his mother’s funeral.
