Martin Brockway and Mathilda Link were married on Jun 20, 1939. Tillie is Walt’s 1st cousin once removed.
Martin Stewart Brockway was born in Denmark, Iowa on January 26, 1916. His parents were Charles and Mary Conway Brockway. Charles was a well driller.
Mathilda Rose Link was born on July 28, 1915 in West Point, Iowa. Her parents were John H. and Josephine Schulte Link. I wrote about them in this post.
Martin and Tillie were married in West Burlington, Iowa at St. Mary’s Rectory by Rev. George A Volz. Witnesses were William J Fischer and Georgina Link, Tillie’s first cousin (and Walt’s mom).

Martin served as a Seabee in the Pacific during World War II. I found a record that covered his service dates. He enlisted September 9, 1943. He served overseas from May 25, 1944 to November 29, 1945 when he was discharged. This was a document being submitted in 1949 to collect additional compensation for overseas duty.

Martin had several jobs over the years, mostly in the construction business. He worked in sheet metal early on, working for heating and air conditioning companies. Martin later had his own construction business and was a supplier for that industry. He was well recognized for his innovation and work.
Martin and Tillie Brockway had 3 sons and one daughter. They lived in southeast Iowa for the rest of their lives, mostly in West Burlington. Martin died on June 26, 1996 and Tillie died on April 2, 1997. Martin and Tillie are both buried in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa.
