I try to find gifts for people that work well for their interests. Walt and I also do some creative gift wrapping. Several years ago, I made boxes of fabric to “wrap” gifts for my sister and mom.
The boxes were made with fabric and a heavy weight stabilizer. I used a fusible webbing to attach the fabric to the stabilizer. I then satin stitched the edges to prevent fraying. On the yarn box, I did a little decorative stitching to add to the design. I made a hole in the lid for the yarn to come out. I then stitched the sections together. To connect the corners of the lid, I whip-stitched them by hand.
For the diamond shaped box, I used folded fabric to cover the corners and skipped the decorative stitching. The folds added interest.
Making these boxes was a fun way to add something extra to my gifts of yarn and fabric. I used similar methods to make these traveling crafting kits.
