A Valentine’s Anniversary

It’s a few days early, but we wanted to be sure to celebrate a special anniversary. This February 14, Carl and Georgie would have been married 80 years.

A fun photo booth picture of Carl and Georgie from the late 1930s

Carl Ray Hoel was the son of William Henry Hoel and Martha Ann Fisher. He was born in Celina, Ohio on June 5, 1911. Georgina Teresa Link was the daughter of William John Link and Elizabeth Wellman. She was born October 23, 1917 in West Point, Iowa.

A wedding announcement

Carl and Georgie were married in West Point on February 14, 1942 at St. Mary’s.

They lived for a short time on property that Georgina owned in Lowell, Iowa. Carl was working at the local Ford garage as a mechanic and Georgie was working as a secretary for a construction company. The company was at that time building a munitions plant in Middleton, Iowa.

War work took them to Lincoln, Nebraska, and then to Pocatello, Idaho. The story of their trip back home to Iowa after the war is part of the reason this blog started. That story starts here.

This picture was taken in the 1940s.

Carl and Georgie were married for 29 years when Carl died on August 6, 1971. Georgie passed on November 25, 2004.
