Today we go back another generation on the Link line. George Link was born in Bavaria Germany on June 9, 1798. We talked about his son, Walt’s great great grandfather in this post.

George married Anna M. Limbach in Germany around 1825. I don’t have any information about their parents and families in Germany. They had a total of 7 children. Five of those children survived to move to America with them in 1847.

The family lived in Wheeling, West Virginia, after they arrived in the United States. They move to Washington County, Pennsylvania shortly thereafter. I found them in the 1850 census living on a farm in Donegal Township living with 4 of their children.

They move to Iowa in 1856. They lived near Colony in Delaware County. I found them in the 1860 census. Colony and Colesburg were small towns very close together in Delaware county, sharing a main street. They merged to be Colesburg. The University of Iowa has a history of Colesburg in it’s archives.

George Link lived in the area until his death on November 15, 1877. He was buried in St. Boniface Cemetery in New Vienna, Iowa.

Two of his children remained in the family home until 1892.
