As I work on the family history, I am trying to get the most accurate information I can. So I want to find the source closest to the event.
Primary (or original) sources would be a birth certificate, marriage license, death certificate or something similar. A secondary (or derivative) source would be from a newspaper article, a book or even a transcription of a record.
John Brockman and Margaret Behrens were married on February 20, 1912 in West Point, Iowa. He is Walt’s 1st cousin 2x removed.
Francis Mansheim and Catherine Hundt married on February 13, 1901. Their son married Walt’s 2nd cousin once removed, Evelyn Brune.
Anne McClure was born on February 6, 1776 in Newberry County, South Carolina. She is Walt’s 4th great-grandmother.
Allie Denning and Marie Link were married on January 30, 1918 in West Point, Iowa. Marie is Walt’s 1st cousin 2x removed.
Catherine Menke Fraise was born on January 23, 1853 in Iowa. She is related through the Wellman side of the family.
Anna Lohman was born on January 16, 1870 in West Point, Iowa. She is related through marriage on the Wellman side of the family.
William Brockman was born on January 29, 1853 and died on January 9, 1931. He is Walt’s second great uncle.
Each new year, I take some time to clean out file folders and straighten up things. I like to start fresh and it gives me a chance to see what needs fixing, updating, mending and so on. One of the things I do is update my files on family history.
