Sometimes you have some odds and ends left over from a project. This can be something you cooked or something you made. Here is an example of using the cut off parts of a quilt I made a few years ago for a cousin’s grandbaby.
The original quilt used a block called a snowball. It has small triangles added to the corners of a square to make then appear slightly rounded. This is one of the blocks. I used plain blocks to help set off the brightly colored snowballs.
When you make these blocks, you trim off the corner to keep from having too much extra fabric when you are quilting.
I had a pile of little triangles left from making the quilt, so I sewed them together into squares. Laying them out into a pattern took a little time, but when I had a design I liked, I then sewed those squares together. The squares are about one inch finished. The whole quilt is 13.5 inches by 9.5 inches.
I used a bunch of scraps to make the back too. The little triangles were sewn together to make some flying geese.
It’s always fun to use up the leftovers in creative ways.
