Bessie May Trevett was born in October 25, 1889 near Emerson, Nebraska. Bessie May is my (Michelle’s) great grandmother.

Bessie was the second child born to Orlando and Francis (Fannie) Cox Trevett. The family had moved from Wisconsin to Nebraska just before Bessie’s birth. Orlando was a farmer. Bessie graduated high school in Wayne Nebraska.

In 1911, Bessie May Trevett married Clyde Hodge in Pierce, Nebraska. Bessie and Clyde had 3 children together. Clyde and Bessie moved to South Dakota, where Clyde died in 1918.

Bessie moved back to Nebraska and moved in with her parents. We find her working as a housekeeper in the 1920 census.

In 1930, Bessie May was working as a waitress in Wakefield, Nebraska. In 1949, Bessie was living in Oregon, where she married Cody Barnett in Portland on July 3rd. This document is the first I’ve found with her middle name spelled Mae. It also lists he place of birth as Wisconsin.

I don’t have any information on when Bessie died. I wrote about her father Orlando in this post.
